Final Report PLN

My PLN

This is a screenshot of my PLN. I do not use it as much as I thought I would. I do love the fact that it simplifies everything into one screen, however. These are the websites that I use the most. I have my bank, my credit card company, my Facebook, my Skype, the school Ii work for, and the University of South Alabama.

Summary Post c4t #4

teacher

My teacher was Jerrid W. Kruse. I learned a lot from reading his blog. He is avid about technology, however he does see the implications it could cause. In a study they found that kids were more interested in sharing responsibilities than learning new things. This could be great fro teaching teamwork and responsibility and even social skills however, this is not great for the lesson plan. I think by using the computers consistently for a while would cause the new to wear off and more work would get done!

Summary c4k

I have had the opportunity to read some pretty amazing blogs by some pretty amazing kids! My first blog I was assigned was Grace on the Go! She was in Ms. Yolli's class and she earned her own blog. She was selected by her outstanding work. She was very excited and honored to have her own blog. My favorite part about her blog was her Voki. It was a little dog that followed my mouse around the screen with his eyes! It was very neat!

My next C4K was Jess. He was from Adalaide and got to go to New Zealand. I was very jealous seeing as how I have never left the states. Come to think of it, I have not been past Mississippi to the west. The furthermost I have been North is to New York, but other than that I have been confined to this great state of Alabama.
kids

My next kid was pretty amazing at describing what he saw outside! He used great adjectives to describe what he saw when he went outside. It was great writing for a child his age! He made me feel as if i was there and could see what he had seen. I loved reading his blog post!

My next post was Colin. He is in Mrs.Haugen's class. He is new to blogging, and he loves it. He works with a team and must comment on his team members blog each week. I told him how I just began blogging and how I love to work with my team members. I believe that it is such a great learning opportunity when you have to work with other people!

ALEX

ALEX stands for Alabama Learning Exchange. I have never heard of this term before, however it is an interesting website for teachers and aspiring teachers to be able to use. The best part of it for teachers is that it has lesson plans on there already. The plans meet state standards, so it is simple to get a quality lesson plan off of their website. Another great quality of this website is that you can post your lesson plans on there, as well. This way other teachers can review your work and give feedback. This creates a great way for teachers to communicate and share ideas.

This was a great assignment because many people do not know the opportunities and sources that educators have!!

Tom Johnson's Adventures In Pencil Integration:
pencils

Just teach them to solve for x was an amazing post. This was the one I commented on. I love the sarcasm in this post. The entire post was about him using metaphors to teach and someone having a problem with this. As they were making their argument they downed his methods. However, while making her argument she uses metaphors herself. I just loved it!

Next was Sketch Portraits: Eighth Grade Identity and Pencils. This was a great metaphorical post! He describes the pencil as a variety of different things. Middle school students are going through a tough phase in their lives. One day they will love you ad one day they will hate you. They may have a multitude of personalities in a given week! You must be able to cope with it and help them along.

In the next one:  He Just Likes The Class For The Pencils, Mr.Spencer explains how you must have a relationship with your students. This is such an important concept that many teachers forget! You must give respect to someone if you expect respect to be given to you.

The  Medium Shapes The Learning explains to us that we must keep the child engaged! Please, everyone remember this. Keep your students interested in what you are doing in the classroom! Do not be a hard nosed teacher who demands nothing but burp back knowledge. Please, engage your students!

My Sentence!

Summary Response To Survey

Here is the link to my Summary! My Summary!!!

My survey was about mental and physical wellness. I am very concerned about the vast epidemic that is growing in our country. Obesity is becoming more and more common. College is really a turning point for many people. This is where they pick up many bad habits. They are no longer at home with well cooked meals. Most students are on their own! It is simple to stop by a fast food restaurant. Also, often times they simply do not have time to excercise. This leads to weight gain.

What I found was that many people do not get the recommended daily excercise. You should try to make time to excercise at least three times a week for thirty minutes a day in order to maintain your weight. I also was shocked that not as many people as eat fast food as often as I thought they would. One thing that is concerning though is the amount of stress that students are under. Many people said that they work and go to school. This is very stressful. You must take time to treat yourself to something you enjoy and use good stress management techniques. Stress can wear on your body as much as an unhealthy lifestyle.

Watch these movies: Discovery Student Movies: Technology In The Classroom and Pay Attention

Write about how these make you feel as a future teacher.

Discovery Student Movies:Technology In the Classroom

This is such a creative video by these students. Technology is in our future whether you like it or not. We might as well embrace it. Let's make our students more technologically advanced citizens. Lets allow them to enjoy going to school. I want to know who made up the rule that school must be hard and boring?! It doesn't have to be! I want my students to be engaged in what I am teaching. I want them to be interested enough to apply it to their lives!! I Do NOT believe in "burp back" education.

Pay Attention

This is an amazing video! Like I said in the paragraph above, we must engage our students!!!!!!! They must be motivated to learn. We live in a time of technology! Our students must be able to analyze and apply the problems they come across. What good have you done if you expect your student to memorize your material the night before the test in order to get a passing grade?! You have not done any good for them in the long run!! They may get a good grade on that test, but what happens when they get to college?! How will their grades look then? You must put the student first! I believe in order to do that you must be a technologically literate teacher, and you must make your students technologically literate!

Summary Post c4k October Style

So, I am very disappointed that I did not keep up with my students that I have been talking to this month! They have been amazing, however. I love talking to these students! I know they love knowing that people are interested in what they are doing. It inspires them to want to continue learning! it gives them such a wonderful, but different, perspective of learning. They are no longer just sitting in a classroom listening to a teacher ramble on. They are using the information they learn about to teach others! They discuss assignments with other classmates, and the world!

technology
Little Kids....Big Potential
This is just an amazing video! It is so weird knowing that these kids are using things more proficiently than I am, and that I am just now learning about each of these technologies! Ms.Cassidy has done a wonderful job with her students. They are very educated in more than just "school". It is so inspiring. Many people would be against this, but it is so good to know that she has been through it and it works so well.
Discussion with Ms. Cassidy
Ms. Cassidy has been using technology for about ten years. She started when she got 5 new computers in her classroom. They wouldn't let her download any programs on them, however. This is when she decided to let them have blogs in order to further their learning! She starts teaching them about the computers at the beginning of the year.
Her students must h ave a permission slip signed in order to have their picture taken and put onto the blog. She does not correlate the children's names with their pictures. She, also, only uses their first names. This makes the children's parents feel better about this learning experience. The parents are very supportive of their child's learning. They can check on their child's progress right from home.
The children love this way of learning! They are very excited to get on their computer everyday! They love that people can look at their blogs and leave them comments!
Ms. Cassidy thinks that every teacher should be technologically literate! I agree with her! it will make your student's learning experience so much more entertaining. They will enjoy coming to school and learning if you have the most modern way of teaching!

C4T Summary Teacher #3

Apple picture
I had some trouble, initially, leaving my teacher a comment. However, I did eventually get it! My teacher has such an adorable class!! I left my comments about their Halloween costumes. They were absolutely adorable! My first comment was about them making their pumpkins! It looked messy!! I think I would have loved to be in that Mrs. Cassidy's class as a child!

Addtional Assignment #3

Sir Ken Robinson: Changing Educational Paradigms
This is video was very well put together. By this, I mean that the video covered his issues with education on a level that everyone can understand. It was simple but it had very key point to his idea of changing the educational paradigm. His main point that I believe he is trying to make here is that education cannot go on the way it has been. It has to be diverse because not all kids are facing the same economic and cultural values on the same level. I do agree with this idea of changing education because it is not a one size fits all subject. I would like to think that all children have an equal opportunity to an education but they do not. As far as the video goes in general, I liked it because like I said before, it was put together in a way that everyone could understand it. We were asked what part of the film would we be in if it was ours and I have decided that I would not be in it at all. I do not like putting together videos so this doesn’t pertain to me.

School Bus

An Open Letter To Educators

This is a great post! She hits the nail right on the head with everything she says! We are, indeed, using the same teaching methods that were used when school first began. Times have changed. Why haven't we? I have heard for years that we use "burp back" methods, yet nothing has been done about it. When will people stop talking and actually do it?! I think that this class does a great job at helping us to become more independent learners.

I feel like I can relate with everything she says. When you sit in a class and just expect to be able to repeat everything the teacher says is so boring and terrible! I hope that one day this trend will be broken!

Don't Let Them Take The Pencils Home

This was to tell us not to dwell on problems! Sometimes teachers focus so much on the negative side of things. I know that I had a teacher once and all she talked about were the bad grades in the class. There could have been 20 A's and 2 F's and her entire class period was focused on those two people who didn't do so well, while the rest of us were just sitting there listening to these poor kids being stricken in front of the class. I think the message is to remember the good that happens as well as the bad.

Two Questions That Can Change Your Life

The first question was 'What is my sentence?'. I think this means if people had to summarize you in one sentence what would it be? I think mine would be 'She is a great teacher that enjoyed what she did everyday of her life.' Well, I would hope that's how people would remember me by. I know that I will enjoy my job. I love working with any kids in any school type environment.

The other question was 'Was I better today than i was yesterday?'. This is a question that I have been taught to ask myself since I was a young child. This is instilled in my brain. This is a self evaluation. Everyone can improve everyday. No one is perfect. I think that everyone needs to remember that. Especially teachers. Every once in a while we get satisfied. My favorite thing to say is 'Never be Satisfied'. You always demand more of yourself. If you demand more of yourself, your students will do the same.

What I've Learned This Year
Mr. McClung gives some great advice in this post. In summary he says don't try to be perfect and always keep your students number one! This sounds so simple, but many teachers lose sight of this. They are so concerned trying to make the perfect lesson that they forget to make sure that their class is comprehending the material being taught. He also says that you can never stop learning and to not be afraid of technology. We have learned so much about this in our EDM class already this year. It is a very important subject, and I think that is why it keeps being brought up. Many teachers get satisfied with where they are at in their teaching methods. In my opinion, and important thing to remember is one teaching method may not work for every class or every student. You must remain flexible and willing to learn more.

Blog Assigment #8

This Is How We Dream Part 1 & 2

Dr. Miller makes a great presentation with these videos. he starts out in the first one talking about how we can access everything on the internet now. He spoke about how he did an article on the shootings at Virginia Tech, and he never stepped foot in a library. He was also able to look up how each politician voted on a particular subject matter by using the internet. He is explaining to us how the internet has changed the way we write. There is not need for paper books anymore. Everything you need is on the internet. He also speaks about incremental and fundamental changes.

In part 2, Dr. Miller is talking about how this affects our work. He shows us several techniques that are available to us and stresses the importance of visuals. He says that he foresees a time where we will use such digital demonstrations for our writing rather than word processors.

I believe that he is correct. We should be interested in this attempt to proceed into the future. We need inspired teachers in order to teach this change. Everything is always changing and we should be motivated to be a leader in this revolution.

The Chipper Series

This video is trying to dramatize a student who is figuring out the ins and outs of edm. I love this video. Jamie Lynn always does a great job on her videos. Dr. Strange wasn't too shabby either. This is a great video for beginner students to watch because edm can be a lot to handle. I have had so many people warn me about it and tell me how horrible it is. In my experience, so far, I do not think it's that bad. My advice is have good time management skills. I think that is one of the morals to this video. You must also be willing to learn on your own. You cannot wait for someone to do it for you. This is a class of trial and error.

EDM310 For Dummies

This is such a funny video. I wish I had the creativity that they have. I love it! It really lightens the mood of the oh so talked about EDM310. It really puts a different spin on the whole class. It shows people that it doesn't have to be all gloomy. You can actually have fun and be creative with it.

I have no idea what I could do for a video. This is something that I will have to think about it in more detail. I would love to do something funny like these two videos. That is more my style. I would like to keep it interesting for my peers to watch.

Smartboards

I think Smartboards are a great idea! I found a few websites supporting them! Here are two of them: Link and Link The smart board is a great example of how technology just keeps getting better! A smart board is like a souped up overhead projector. It makes learning fun and interactive. This is a great way for children to enjoy what they are learning. You can project a computer screen with ease as well. There is no need to have to make transparencies anymore. I think that all teachers should join in with the trend!!!

Additional Assignment #2

1. What do you think? If learners are motivated, can they teach themselves?
Yes! I think that if you are willing and motivated you can teach yourself almost anything!
2. If those motivated learners are kids, can they teach themselves?
Yes! Kids are naturally curious little beings. Children, also have more patience than your average adult.
3. What conditions are necessary for kids to teach themselves? For anyone to teach him or herself?
The learner must be motivated to learn. If the child or adult is not motivated to learn, your are moat likely not going to get very much out of them.
4. What role do computers and internet access play in the process?
Computers and internet access play a huge role in this process. It allows people to have access to information they may not otherwise know or have access to.
5. What role does motivation, a desire to learn?
Motivation plays a huge role in learning. As a teacher, you should always want to keep your students motivated.
6. What roles do a problem, a question or multiple problems or questions play in the process?
People often give up when they run across a problem or a question. We live in a generation where we want someone to do things for us when we run across a problem or a question. The child must be motivated to learn and to take the time to figure something out. For example, the little girl in the video taught herself to become the teacher. She helped others to learn something that even she did not initially understand.
7. How do you motivate someone to learn?
You must make the subject matter to be learned as interesting as possible. You also must give someone the freedom to learn on their own. Allow students to work together on computers and research questions and answers.
8. How are you motivated to learn?
I am motivated to learn because I am ready to graduate! Honestly, EDM310 has motivated me to learn because I know that the knowledge I gain from this class will help my students a lot one day. I want to be able to share my knowledge with them.
9. Can anyone who is not motivated to learn learn?
Yes, I believe they can. However, it is not as effective as someone that is motivated to learn. A motivated student is more willing to do extra work and know the material in more detail. Whereas, a non-motivated student is more apt to try and memorize it simply for a grade.
10. Do you teach yourself? When? Why?
Yes!! EDM310 is a prime example of teaching yourself. I rarely have time to come in the lab for assistance. Therefore, it is a lot of trial and error. This class has motivated me to explore things on the internet and my computer that I have never thought of or even heard or before.
11. What role does a teacher (either answer generally or use a specific example) play in your learning?
I, personally, like to have a teacher present because you get their point of view on the material. If it is a lecture class you could always read the book and know what is going on, but by listening to the teacher you get more than just your own point of view.
12. What is the most important idea, question or emotional response you take away with you as a result of watching this video?
I think that it is amazing that he could go to another country and present a program that the children were not familiar with and allow them to learn how to work it on their own. That is amazing to me. The software was not even in their own language! I think that people in the U.S. need to watch this video. I think they will feel just silly afterward.
13. What other questions or issues are raised by this video that should be considered and discussed by aspiring teachers?
I think teachers should be inspired by this. They should discuss how to motivate their students. I think a lot of teachers forget the importance of keeping their students interested in the material being taught.

Randy Pausch: The Last Lecture Achieving Your Childhood Dreams

Mr.Pausch is such an inspirational man. He opens the video by sharing a bit of personal history. He tells us that he is battling liver tumors. The doctors have not given him long to live at all. However, he requires no oooos and ahs or pity. He wants none of he such. He is at peace with his condition and proves it by doing some great push ups! This is the kind of person that is out to inspire folks. You cannot go around expecting things from people, such as pity. He had my attention from the get go.

His main objective is to share his testimony of some of the dreams he has accomplished and inspire others to do the same. So many times, we grow up and give up on our childhood dreams. Most of the time we don't even realize it or maybe we think it is just silly now. He shares some of his experiences such as experiencing zero gravity, working on an Alladin project with Disney, and meeting William Shatner. He stresses never giving up on your dreams.

Mr.Pausch is a truly extraordinary man. he has inspired me to continue with my dreams no matter how old I am. I hope I will never forget the lesson he has taught me through this video.

My PLN Progress Report

I love that we have to learn about PLNs. They are a wonderful tool for people of all ages to have. It is a great way to keep your websites and work organized on the computer. I love that I will be able to teach my children about this one day!

As you can see from my PLN, it is a little bare. Most of the websites I use are on there, however I will continue to add different websites as they become available to me!

C4T #2 Summary

My teacher goes by the name dragonsinger. She is a teacher and mother, along with many other things. She is also from New Zealand. Personally, I think this is the coolest thing ever. I love getting to converse with people all over the world!

Her first post was about the earthquake in Christchurch. She lived there for many years, and her kids were born there. She still has friends that live there, however. She felt the quake at her home even though it was a good long distance away from her.

Her next post was about the 10th Annual Ulearn Conference in which she attended. She has her summary of what went on that week up on her page. She seems to have had a very good time. I think one thing that we have in common is that she was very excited about her prizes and freebies. She was very excited about her free shirts, in which I would be too!!! She is a very interesting lady. You should check out her page!

Blog Post #6

The Networked Student

This is a very creative video. It is an oversimplified approach in explaining how technology has and will seriously affect schooling one way or another. Any teacher who does not believe in technology should take a look at this video, and consider how this will affect everyone. Technology is here to stay.

I believe that this is a very empowering way to learn. You can only learn so much by sitting in a classroom listening to the narrow mindedness of a professor. Listening to a lecture you get one point of view, the teachers. By using blogs and student discussions students can share their own findings and opinions with each other. Therefore building their knowledge and comparing facts in order to form their own educated opinion of something. Burp back teaching methods can only take you so far in life.

I think that I will be prepared to teach a networked student. I do believe that students need the guidance of a teacher, however I love the idea of this technique. I will continue to learn about technology in order to better my students future. All teachers should be willing to learn continuously. You expect your students to.Why not you as well?

A 7th Graders Personal Learning Environment

I was very impressed with her work. Seeing a 7th grader be so successful with her online work really inspires me. I feel like I learned a lot from her video. She gave me some new ideas about my own PLN. I loved how she had everything she needed on one page. This helps so much with organizational skills and teaches kids how to be responsible. I think that kids will love the responsibility of this type of learning environment. I also believe that it will help kids to become more independent. We live in and environment today that is overcome with an external locus of control, nothing is their own fault.I believe that this will eventually cure this problem.

The Machine is Changing Us

This was a very interesting video. I love the way that he compared how language has changed so much over time. It really got me thinking. It also made me laugh! I use words all the time, and my mom always asks me what in the world I am talking about. Not only does our language change all of the time but so does our culture and our way of thinking and doing things.

Another good comment he made was that we never know who we are talking to when we are twittering or face-booking or any social networking site for that matter. I have thought about this before, but I don't think many people have. Some people are so irresponsible when talking and giving out information on the internet. I think that more people should take this into consideration. This will really make you consider what you put on the internet. You can always be Googled!!!

Summary Post C4K

I read the manifesto and About Me of an 8th grader at Noel High school. Her name was Blancap. In her About me she shared about her heritage. She comes from several different cultures. I think that this is wonderful because she gets to learn first hand, from her family, about each one of them. In her manifesto, she set very reasonable goals for herself this school year. She is determined to read several books and study more. My favorite goal that she set was to be a leader for her peers. At her age this is so hard for some children to do. I think that she is a very brave girl for wanting to be that positive role model for her fellow classmates.

Eagle Nest Radio & Class Blog

These children were absolutely adorable to listen to. They did a wonderful job! I wish that I would have been introduced to technology earlier in my life. These children do not know how much of an advantage they are getting by learning about this early in life. Their podcast was adorable, and I would love to hear more from them!

100 Ways to use Your iPod to Learn and Study Better

These are some awesome tips. I knew a lot of them, but there were several that I have never heard of before. It is amazing how a simple music player can turn into so many other things. Apple has created a truly ingenious piece of technology. This simple iPod has the ability to turn any ordinary study session into something extraordinary. Not only do you have WiFi internet on it, but you also have applications that you can download to your iPod. The applications can provide anything from Spark notes to recipes to games and much more. I believe that everyone should check what educational values the Apple iPod has in store.

Judy Scharf Podcast Collection

I learned some new things from this blog. I had no idea where the term podcast came from. It only makes sense to me now that it is a mix of broadcast and iPod. I agree with Judy 100% when she says to give pod casting a chance. I believe that it is a great way to get children involved in the subject. Like Judy said, children love sharing what they have learned. It is a sense of accomplishment for them. I also love her list of tips she left. I agree with her that you should let the children feel like they are in control. They will enjoy it more.

The children at Eagle Nest Radio has really inspired me. If they can learn how to use a podcast, so can I. The most helpful thing to me would be Judy Scharf's tips for conducting a podcast with your class. I believe that this is something that I can use in my future when I get my own class!

Additional Assignment #1

A. Google Squared is my new favorite search engine! It organizes all of the information for you so well. I believe that it helps out when you are looking for specific information or details. There is no need to read through paragraphs and paragraphs of stuff with Google Squared.
B. Wolfram Alpha is great for educational objectives. It, too, gives you so much organization when looking for statistics. The graphs, maps, and statistics would be great for students trying to do projects or get outside information about things.
C. I did not know about Google squared before this assignment. I have been telling everyone about it, though! I love it!!
D. I did not know about Wolfram Alpha before this assignment, either. It is very useful, though.
E. I don't think my opinions have changed since the Did You Know video. I still think that things are changing so rapidly, and we must embrace this change or get lost in the dust.
F. From this assignment, I learned that statistics will always amaze me. I know you can't always count on statistics 100%, but they are usually pretty close to being correct.

Blog Assignment #4

Don't teach your kids this stuff. Please? By: Dr. McLeod

My position on Dr. McLoud's blog is very simple. It's genius! I love his sarcasm towards the ignorance of technologically illiterate people. It's not simply the fact that they are technologically illiterate people, but that they refuse to learn and to be open to technology. Technology is everywhere. There is noway that you can escape it. You have the option of allowing your child to learn about technology in a positive manner or use it for the "greater evil". No matter how hard you try, you cannot shield your child from everything. I believe that Dr. McLeod is correct when he says that children learning about technology will have the upper hand in the end.

The iSchool Initiative

First of all, I would like to say that this kid made a great argument. At first, I was thinking that this idea was absolutely crazy, but by the end of the video he had me convinced it was a great idea. He has some wonderful ideas. There are pros and cons to his idea, however.

Let me start off by saying I think that this is more than likely the future of our schools. I like the idea of the iTouch replacing all of the materials required for the classroom. However, I pray that technology will never replace the teacher in the classroom. You need that higher authority to explain things to you and be there to answer questions in person. I pray that it never comes down to having to Google a question or call a help line.

On the other hand, there are several positives. I love the idea of decreasing our Carbon footprint. We are using resources at an alarming rate. We all, as whole, must be willing to help out. Another positive would be that it saves both school and student money. Everyone is looking to save money these days.

Lost Generation

This is a great video! So many people in this world think that money will make you happy. I am glad that I realized that money is not the most important thing, and it will not make me happy. I was pre-dental before I changed my major to teaching. I knew there was more to life than being miserable at your job. Now, I can rest easy knowing that I go to work everyday at a job that I love!

Erich Whitaker's Virtual Choir

This is just amazing! When I first started watching it, I wasn't quite sure what to think. However, the more I watched it the more interested I became in it. It's amazing the things you can do with technology.

Teacher Summary

Ms. Kim Cofino is starting the school year at a new school and in a new country. She is currently located in Japan. She is a technology and learning coach. She has been trying to get settled into her new apartment as well as get ready for the new school year. She knows that you should feel comfortable and safe in your home and work life. She commits herself to to being committed and and there for her students and co-workers. She knows that people are more willing to try new things if they feel like they can trust you.

Ms. Cofino gets to teacch the 6th grade at her new school. There was no prior curriculum at her school so she gets to start brand new. She is a very innovative woman with many great ideas. She has broken it up into four different parts.

Part one is to Investigate. In this stage she gets her students to look at other popular and well put together blogs. She does this in order for them to get an idea of what they are doing. She then introduced the students to Google Docs. The students then began brainstorming on their own blogging ideas. They then begin exploring WordPress. Finally they reflect on what they've learned.

Part two is the planning part. This part requires the students to design different things she assigns. One of which is a site map. Before moving on they will reflect on what they have learned.

Part three is creating their blog. She requires her students to sign a permission slip before actually crating their blog. This is a very good idea for many different reasons. This is the shortest part for her class because they have done all of their prep work already. Before moving on they will, again, reflect.

The last part of the steps is part four:Evaluate. This part allows her to examine the success of their blogs.

I think that she has wonderful ideas so far. She is very organized. She also has a passion for what she does, and I respect that very much. She is giving these students the opportunity to learn responsible technology skills that they can carry with them for the rest of their life.

Blog Assignment #3

A Vision of Students Today

This video really hits close to home. School has become something that is demanded by society. Jobs that used to require a Bachelor Degree now requires a Masters Degree. There is so much pressure put on students. Many people do not realize it. Students are going to school in order to get jobs, yet when they graduate many will not be able to find one. I spend little time on Facebook or watching TV. My life is dedicated to work and school. The weekends are when I let go of school a little and try to enjoy my life while I am still young.

The best part about this video was the sign that said I did not create these problems, but they are my problems. This is so true in the world today. It is not our fault that the economy is the way it is. It is also not our fault that when we graduate from college we will be in thousands of dollars worth of debt.

It's not about the Technology

I agree with Ms. Hines completely on this argument. Technology is a great thing, but it is not the most important. Technology is a very powerful and resourceful tool, but only in the right hands. Technology is only as useful as the knowledge of the user. Teachers must be motivated to continue learning about the world around them. Learning never stops. There is always room for improvement. The world around us is changing, and we all must be motivated to learn new things.

Is it Okay to be a Technologically Illiterate Teacher?

I do not believe that it is okay to be a technologically illiterate teacher. I love this post because many teachers (and people in general) are, indeed, very proud of their ignorance. They act as if it is cute. I will admit I am not the most advances in technology, but I do try. I love that I have to take this class. I have learned so much so far. The best statement thus far is,"If a teacher today is not technologically literate - and is unwilling to make the effort to learn more - it's equivalent to a teacher 30 years ago who didn't know how to read and write.". It is so true. Technology is advancing so much, and I believe that teachers should be able to do it if they assign it, like the blog said. So many assignments are online now days. If you have a question, don't got to the teacher. I would bet you that over half of the teachers would have no clue how to help you. Anytime I asked I got the reply of, "Well, you will need to email tech help". Many times it was something that they had done wrong when registering the class.

Social Media Count

This is absolutely amazing to watch. You know that a lot of people use technology, but this just makes you see just how many. Technology has come so far in such a short amount of time. Some people try so hard to keep up with it. The fact of the matter is, you would have to have millions and millions of dollars to keep up. I got my computer in the spring of 2007 and by the time I got to college in the fall of 2007 it was already outdated. I had to buy a new program to download.

I believe that as a teacher you have the power to allow technology to affect your classroom in a positive manner or a negative manner. With technology, you literally hold the world in your hands. You can get ideas from other teachers all over the world. It is also a great tool for your students. It's a great opportunity for them too learn about other cultures other than the culture of their local area.

Blog post #2!

DID YOU KNOW?
This video really makes you realize how much the world is growing. It is growing and expanding not only with population but also in technology. It also tells us how much the United States is not the leader in many of these things like many wold think.
There are many countries that are coming up with new and improved technologies and ways of learning in which the United States has not even thought of yet. One thing that really stuck out in my head was when it said that India has more honors students than the United States has students. This just shows us how quickly the world is growing and expanding.

MR. WINKLE WAKES
Some things never change. That is a great way to end this video. It is very true. In high school we began learning the basic skills of a computer. I am 21 years old and I have learned more about a computer in the two weeks of being in EDM310 than I ever have.
Technology plays a huge role in our society. If we do not teach our children in schools how to use them, how will we have responsible citizens in the future. However, before the students learn, teachers must learn. Our world revolves around computers and I believe that everyone should learn how to work one responsibly.

KEN ROBINSON SAYS SCHOOLS KILL CREATIVITY
Mr.Robinson believes that schools should incorporate more creativity into their curriculum. I agree with him in some ways and I don't in others. I believe that the core subjects are more important than others such as creativity subjects.
However, I agree with what he said about in order to be creative you must be willing to be wrong. I do believe that this is a wonderful thing for all educators to know. In my opinion, all kids should be taught this. Many adults have the fear of being wrong, and this steals from their creativity. Kids rarely care if they are wrong or not, and I believe that this is why young children grow out of creativity, as MR.Robinson said.

HARNESS YOUR STUDENTS' DIGITAL SMARTS
Vicki Davis has a very good approach to teaching her children. She allows them to use the internet to connect to people all over the world from their rule town in Georgia. I believe that all kids should learn how to use the computer and internet responsibly.
She has taken on a very innovated approach to teaching. I applaud her on all that she has accomplished with her curriculum. She has allowed these students to expand their learning from more than just a book, a pen, and a piece of paper. If we do not start teaching our students to use computers and the internet properly, they will be far behind the rest of the world when they begin to run this country.

Blog post #1 About me!

Hi! My name is Hailey Suzanne Rascoe. I am a senior this year. I was born and raised in this great city of Mobile. I went to Mary G. Montgomery High School and graduated in 2007. I then attended Lurleen B. Wallace Community College on a softball scholarship. I came back to Mobile in order to be closer to my friends and family.
I have a passion for softball. I am currently the head softball coach at Cottage Hill Christian Academy. This is the first year that I have had the opportunity to be a head coach. I was Pre-Physical Therapy until I got an assistant coaching job at Cottage Hill Christian. That was the year that I discovered that I care more about enjoying my job and making a difference in children's lives than I do about making a lot of money. I am over joyed that I will be able to have the opportunity to be a good role model for my students.
